What are your plans for next season? If you haven’t thought about this already, why not? For me, I am starting to plan my athlete’s seasons from the moment they achieve their current targets. Follow this advice when setting your training plan:

 

  • Pick an overall goal or objective

 

  • Pick from a list of events and categorise them A, B or C (descending order of importance)

 

  • Based on your “A” targets, how will you get there?

 

  • What training will you need to do?

 

  • How much general training will you need to do?

 

  • When will you need to start specialised training for your event?

 

  • Do you need to involve other people, clubs or coaches?

 

  • Will you train to improve your weaknesses or play to your advantages?

 

  • When will you rest?

 

  • How will you monitor your progression?
